The Models LRTS and LRTL open around a side mounted vertical hinge pin and therefore pivot open horizontally. They are designed for use when a machine has mechanical parts that prevent tilting open as is normal for previously listed drill guards. Examples of application are on a radial arm drilling machine where the travel handwheel or locking shafts are located low down at the front thus preventing a tilt up style guard from opening. Another common application is where the spindle is located fairly rearwards in the head of a geared head drilling machine and the spindle position prevents use of a tilt up guard.
Constructed from special aluminium extrusions with front clear polycarbonate windows for viewing, these guards clamp to the bottom of the quill (Section that moves up and down but doesn’t rotate). Most drilling machines have a round boss or section at the bottom of the quill suitable for fixing the drill guard to. A length of about 16mm is required. Clamping sizes range from 41mm to 92mm diameter. This guard can accommodate drill chucks with an outside diameter of up to 70mm. Note that sometimes the depth stop lower casting (generally pear shaped) is located right at the bottom of the quill but this casing can generally be unpinned or unclamped and relocated 16mm higher up the quill providing a guard clamping position below the casting. Alternatively an adaptor can be manufactured or if required, supplied for extra charge, to suit quill’s of greater diameter than 92mm or where there is an unusual non round shaped end to the quill.
Note: Specials with a length up to 350mm overall length can be supplied.
